Note: import from Interactive Brokers is currently in beta. Interactive Brokers (IBKR) is one of the largest and most recognised online brokers in the world, operating in more than 150 countries. It offers access to a wide range of financial products including European UCITS ETFs, stocks, bonds and options. It is especially popular among advanced European investors for its competitive commissions and breadth of available markets. For passive investors, Interactive Brokers provides access to virtually all UCITS ETFs available on European markets, including those from iShares, Vanguard, SPDR and Amundi tracking indices such as the MSCI World, MSCI ACWI and MSCI Emerging Markets. Its per-trade commissions are competitive, especially for medium-to-high volumes. Index Balance allows you to automatically import your ETF purchases from the Interactive Brokers Activity Statement CSV. The integration is in beta — it imports ETF and index instrument buy orders, automatically excluding cryptocurrencies. To import, download the Activity Statement from Reports → Activity Statements on the IBKR platform, choose CSV format, and upload it in the Import section of Index Balance.

Frequently asked questions

How do I import my Interactive Brokers transactions?

Download the Activity Statement in CSV format from Reports → Activity Statements in IBKR. Then go to Import in Index Balance and choose Interactive Brokers. The import is in beta — only ETF buy orders are imported; cryptocurrencies are automatically excluded.

Is Interactive Brokers suitable for index fund investors?

Interactive Brokers is excellent for UCITS ETFs with low commissions. However, for investors in Spain who prefer investment funds (not ETFs) for tax advantages on transfers, brokers like MyInvestor or Indexa Capital may be more suitable.

Is Interactive Brokers available across Europe?

Yes. Interactive Brokers operates throughout Europe and offers accounts to residents in most EU countries and Switzerland. The account is managed through IBKR Europe (Ireland) or IBKR LLC depending on the client's residence.

What type of ETFs can I track in Index Balance from IBKR?

You can track any UCITS ETF you hold at Interactive Brokers by recording transactions by ISIN. Index Balance automatically retrieves historical NAV for most common funds. If the ETF is not in the database, you can request it to be added.
